Wichita banker-turned-artist Edmund L. Davison embraced the American Regionalist style pioneered by fellow Midwestern artists Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry, and Grant Wood. Here Davison portrays men using wheelbarrows to remove Ackerman’s Island near downtown Wichita, a project funded by the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression.
